Nigeria: Another Tanker Explosion Sparks Panic in Lagos

Lagos — There was panic in Idimu, a Lagos suburb on Friday midnight after a tanker carrying diesel exploded and caught fire, razing dozens of homes. But no life was lost.
The tanker was reportedly coming from NNPC depot at Ejigbo and fell at Idimu spilling its content on the road.
Today's incident came barely five days after a similar one occurred at Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos where a tanker carrying petroleum product fell off the bridge, destroying dozens of vehicles and homes.
Scores of people who had gone to bed were trapped in the latest inferno.
The Public Relations Officer of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in the South-West Region, Ibrahim Farinloye confirmed "a tanker fully loaded with diesel crashed and exploded at Idmu bus stop near residential area in Lagos.
NEMA, state and Federal fire services are responding to the incident, he said.
"The explosion occurred at 12 am. It is diesel tanker. It's a lone crash by the tanker. It was speeding before it crashed and the content spilling on sand where beans cake are being fried," the agency said.
"A patrol station located close to the crash site has been successfully saved and the raging fire has been isolated. Several residential houses affected already. No one has complained of missing person as at the time of the incident.
"A total of 34 residential houses and 15 shops are affected already. No casualty or injury yet. The youths of the area assisted us greatly in curtailing the spread of the fire from causing much devastation."
