Crisis is brewing in All Progressives Congress (APC), South East, as the party’s zonal leader, Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, has submitted three names for the post of Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) to President Muhammadu Buhari.
The tree names, which are causing disaffection among members of the party in the South East include his in-law, Prof. Anthony Anwuka, who is his preferred choice; Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, former chairman of ANPP; and Senator Chris Ngige, the former governor of Anambra State.
Party members especially in Imo State however are said to be unhappy with the governor’s first choice, Anwuka, who is said to be his in-law. They also alleged that Okorocha did not consult the leadership APC in the South East before sending the list to Buhari.
Sources alleged that Okorocha was ruling the party in the South East as his own political empire, without regard to the various groups like APGA, ACN and ANPP, that gave him the platform.
It would be recalled that Okorocha recently removed the SSG in Imo State and replaced him with his chief of staff; while succeeding the chief of staff with his son-in-law, Uche Nwosu, who was Commissioner for Lands in his first term.
Anwuka’s son, Uzo, recently got married to the daughter of Okorocha in October 2014.
